27/08/2023 - A summer of run (I mean, fun!)

Our members have been stacking out their summers with running plans here, there and everywhere, so here’s a roll call for the teamies in blue out doing their thing.

We start with Paul Woods who took part in the Snowdon Skyrace which was back with a vengeance in its fourth edition. Boasting 40km and 3,150m of climb including come iconic scrambling, our man was back over the finish line in 7 hours 16.

Alaistair Chambers took on the Wales Half Marathon in Pembroke finishing 13th, and comfortably winning his age category by 10 minutes in a time of 1:31:13. He’s packed out his summer with races, attending Worthington 6, Tara Kinder 10K a few days later running 39:23, the Castle Rock 10K, which is an event in Nottingham, in 40:55 and come mid August toed the line at the Belper Rugby Rover, completing the event in 2:33:47. Andy Hough joined in with the fun at the Rover, finishing in 3:02 and 63rd position.

Andrew Bottrill was in action representing at the Wenlock Olympians 7 miler, completing the undulating event in 54:09, whilst Georgie Smith flew our flag at the Norwich 10K, securing herself a new and huge personal best in 46:56, adding another standard to her growing collection.

There was quite a handful of us at the Gardendon Gallop, which takes in some of the Shepshed 7 course I believe. Louis Barnes led the charge for the boys in 46:03 and it was Sophie Turner for the gals in 52:41. Joining them were Patrick Horn in 47:15, Andy Cole in 52:58, and Lisa and Simon Hall who finished together dipping under 57 minutes. A bright yellow helicopter completed the tribe, flying round to a 1 hour 1 finish, our Fiona Betts contuining to impress in her epic attire.

James Ogilvie tried out the Hob Hursts Fell Race organised by popular local company Peak Running. A 8km long course staged in the evening with 256m of elevation. James held a great pace and finished in 43:29, fourth in his age category, a great achievement for a first tip of the toe into fell running.
