Race results

You lucky things, only a days break and we’re back with more news. Close to home today we start at the Great Birmingham Run, where Matt Humphreys raced to his second fastest half marathon time in 2:06:46. Our Margaret Hibbell award winner has found his movements more restricted of late but he’s more determined than ever. He’s out to prove that no matter what your abilities are you can do anything if you set your mind to it. He fundraised as part of his half marathon effort to raise funds for CP Teens UK who give social opportunities, and a voice to youngsters with physical disabilities.

Richard Hampson was out completing his first ultra marathon up in Bakewell at the Maverick Adidas Terrex X Series Peak District. He described it as having amazing views, alongside some tough terrain, but really enjoyable (in hindsight at least). The 54 km event took him an amazing 6 hours and 3 minutes. Well done Richard.

Two runners were also in search of the luscious views of the Peaks and chose the Hathersage Hurtle as their race destination. Julie Taylor set an Ivanhoe record this time round in 3:14 and she was joined by James Ogilvie who was at this one for the first time and ran 3:35.

The Trent 5 mile was attended by an all female contingent. Clare Wood finished in a fine 14th place and 4th in her category, and set a new personal best in the process, 36:27 took 36 seconds off her previous best at the same race last year. Victoria Smith was out testing the her new fancy shoes and was happy with her efforts in Beeston running 37:59. Alex Gillon was next back knocking a whole minute off, again, her same race last year for a new PB; she’s really stacking the up this season and has already earned her bronze standard. Nancy Bennion was next back in 41:06 for her 10th race of the year. Sue Tait ran strong for another 4th place category finish in 43:02, and Judy Mouncer popped a solid 5 miler onto her standards board with 44:15, in her quest for distinction, just 10 miles remain for this superstar.
