With the 6th BDSL match coming in hot tomorrow, we’d better get you up to speed with the goings ons after fixture number five at Worthington.

Not that you’d believe it from the pre-race photo, but the blue team actually had a stonking turn out of 32 racers on that July midweek evening, as well as many a volunteer helping out, whether it be car park attending, number registrations, marshalling or handing out those all-important post run choccie bars, thank you to you all. A big shoutout to Louis Barnes for all his behind the scenes management in the lead up to race day, and Ramzi Sidani for being the ultimate wing man and on the day director. Well done to you both.

The sell out event was not only a smash hit from a running perspective, but all profits were donated to the Children with Cancer charity, a cause very dear to some of our much loved members, and it was an honour to be able to send some funds their way following this annual run.

And now onto the results; it was personal bests for Andrew Stanley, 39:55 taking 15 seconds off his best time, Georgie Smith, a sparkling 1:39 off her time from the same race last year in 45:44, Karl Wideman clearly hasn’t got many 6 milers under his belt, a nearly 3 minute PB on a easier run from his being kind to his calf, Simon Hall was another with a cracking nearly 3 min improvement in 53:45 a PB that had stood sine 2016, and Jenny Hope, more than 3 minute for the superstar taking down her 2017 Swithland time in 54:33.

George Giles ran his first ever race for Ivanhoe in 39:45, and a number of runners laid down their first ever 6 mile benchmark; Dan Bladon, Chris Osborne, Adrian Fowler, James Cain, Geoff Brown, Lisa Hall, Tim Sturla and Kenny Ashton.

Mindy Ashton was successful in topping the charts in her age category, and took home a prize from Derby Runner with her time of 46:33 scoring her 13th female.

With Burton 10K, Lichfield 10K and Tamworth 5 left on the agenda, our men’s team are in third position behind Tamworth in the silver spot and South Derbyshire leading the charge, and it’s the same for the ladies, South Derbyshire also topping their leader board, and Washlands Women sandwiched between the yellows and ourselves.
