14/09/2022 - Three is a Magic Number.

Race results

3️⃣ is a magic number! Because thanks to 3️⃣-zero runners, plus organisers and supporters, we raised a MIGHTY… drum roll please… 3️⃣ HUNDRED and 35 pounds for the British Heart Foundation. On the 14 September, Hicks Lodge was the stomping ground for our annual handicap event to celebrate the life of Adrian Smith an Ivanhoe runner who tragically collapsed and died during a club event back in September of 1986.

The 2022 edition of the event was a 10K distance, with stats man Mark Parker pre-programming his Excel spreadsheets with estimated times ready to set runners off at the right time (if they were ready that is, mentioning no names)! The idea being that the final sprint for home will be an exciting one, with runners of all abilities having opportunity to take the coveted title. If our Mark got his numbers right, he’d have a lot of work to do with our champs all completing their run at a very similar time!

In🥉medal position was Mark Harriott, with a time of 39:26 against his prediction of 40:50, and in 🥈was Clare Wood in a time of 45:35 against a prediction of 47:30, more than seven minutes improvement on her previous Ivanhoe recorded 10K at Burton in August. Topping the podium, graciously accepting the Adrian Smith 🏆 from Adrian’s family was Andrew Bottrill. Setting off at the same time as Clare also being given a prediction of 47:30, Andrew absolutely stormed round the course, and was “absolutely gobsmacked” at his performance of 45:08, and said it was “such a honour to win this race that means so much to the club”. 💙

Completing the field were our other 27 superstars. Next back was Jordan Cope in 42:49, running a 1 minute 8 second PB to improve on his Colin Potter outing earlier this year, followed by Matt Pleass in 38:23. Paul Woods was close behind, a 44 second personal best for him secured a time of 38:52.

Next home was our second lady, Emily Wideman, another high scoring performance, 44:06 knocking 17 seconds off her 2019 Shelton Striders time. Usually on the yellow team, it was lovely for Becky Moult to make an appearance, 49:02 being her time for the 10K, followed by Patrick Horn running 43:36, Alistair Chambers in 41;12, Ruth Enion in 45:34 and Sandra Lawless in 50:43.

Michelle Coates put her first 10K on the board as an Ivanhoe member in 55:25, as did Rob Baden in 38:43, and Daniel Bladon in 40:06. Sandwiched between our newcomers were Ramzi Sidani in 38:40 and Bec Sharpe in 50:25.

No strangers to the Adrian Smith format, Damon Bland was next in 46:25, Lindsay Tilbury in 43:01 and James Cox in 40:30. 41:45 was the time for Ian Bolton, who was chased for home by Paul Averillo in 52:11, Andy Jeyes in 51:16, Andrew Stanley in 43 minutes on the nose, and Amelia Monaghan in 48:57.

Our fantastic five to complete our set of amazing runners started Roger Western in 54:14, Sally Jeyes in 59:44, Rebecca Wilkinson in 1:01:28, Ellen Jepson in 1:08:40, and Lynne Munro in 1:09:22.
