16/04/2022 - Brighton, Derby & Ibiza

Ivanhoe were in action across a mighty SIX different events last weekend, so let’s begin with shining a light on our first handful.

Our marvelous marathoners get the first mention, naturally, and down in sunny Brighton, whilst it may have been beautiful for support, (and likely left a few with rosy cheeks) runners may have preferred something a tad cooler. Never the less, each one of our champs completed their victory lap after months of hard graft and were rewarded with another (or a debut) 26.2 to their name by the end.

Mindy Ashton was our first time marathoner and wore her #SmileForSimeon vest round the course, rewarded for all her hard efforts with a superb time of 4:07:04. Patrick Horn was out to add a third marathon to his running CV, having completed Manchester in 2018 and Liverpool in 2019, and despite getting cramp at mile 18, stayed strong to the end for a brilliant 4:10 and 50 seconds. Laura Graves completed our terrific trio in 4:25:29 and finished 8th in her age category, what an achievement at one of the biggest marathons in the country!

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our marathon runners. We hope you’ve celebrated hard and are recovering well!

Doing big things closer to home this weekend was Andrew Stanley. He took on Derby 10K, setting runners off from Pride Park stadium, into the city and back again. Our Stan has been eager to break the shiny 40 minute barrier for some time, coming excruciatingly close at Chase the Sun in 2020 in 40:03, but this weekend was his moment, and passed the gantry in 39:54 for a nine minute personal best. Well done Andrew!

We’re jumping on a plane for our next update, where three runners were finally able to run the events they entered for our planned 2020 club trip to Ibiza. Andy Cole ran the 22km event on Saturday evening and despite the heat ran really well in 1:48:03, whilst Matt and Janet Joyce opted for the marathon relay, Matt drawing the short straw and tackling the uphill leg, and was first to complete his running 21km stint before handing over the baton after 1:53, for Janet to run strong and take the pair over the final finish line.
