On a midweek evening on Wednesday 10th June, Ivanhoe Runners headed to the Burton on Trent Washlands for the Washlands Relay – a fast and friendly team event run over legs of just over two miles each.

The turnout was exceptional: 28 ladies and 36 men pulled on the Ivanhoe vest, one of our biggest entries in years and a brilliant show of strength in depth.

It was a superb night for the club, with three Ivanhoe teams taking silverware – including a clean sweep of the open and vet mixed honours:

• First Mixed Team – Ivanhoe Mixed 1
• Mixed Vet – Ivanhoe Mixed 2
• Ladies Vet – Ivanhoe Ladies 1

Ivanhoe Mixed 1 – First Mixed Team (50:53)

Our leading mixed quartet of Chloe Dunning, Adam Kelsall, Georgie Smith and Phil Dunning judged it to perfection. After Chloe got them under way, Adam Kelsall lit up the second leg with a storming 12:08, charging through the field to gain a remarkable 17 places. Phil Dunning then brought it home with the second fastest Ivanhoe leg of the night, an excellent 11:29.

Ivanhoe Mixed 2 – Mixed Vets (51:22)

In a brilliant show of the club's depth, the vets of Ian Bolton, James Cox, Emily Parker and Louis Barnes crossed the line just 29 seconds behind Mixed 1 to take the Mixed Vet prize – two Ivanhoe mixed teams separated by barely half a minute after the full relay. James Cox was the pick of their legs with a swift 12:02.

Ivanhoe Ladies 1 – Ladies Vets (40:51)

Clare Wood, Amelia Monaghan and Carolyn Plateau ran a beautifully measured race to take the Ladies Vet title and a podium place. Carolyn anchored superbly with a 13:16 to lift the team up to 3rd overall in the ladies competition.
