09/10/2022 - Five Brewers Brewing

10K success has been pouring through in the buckets loads lately, and bursting onto the local scene was a superb new race in the form of the Brewers 10K 🍻, the very first closed road running event in Burton. Hosts Burton Albion Community Trust had the aim and of raising the profile of Burton-on-Trent and the Pirelli Stadium, whilst providing a showcase event for the local and neighbouring residents, as well as creating a tremendous fundraising opportunity for The Trust.

Five Ivanhoe Runners made it their mission to complete the inaugural, and if these results don’t encourage you to add it to your calendar for next year, I don’t know what will. The blue team were led home by Rob Baden in 13th place, who ran a superb personal best of 1 minute and 20 seconds, improving on his outing at the Adrian Smith handicap last month (run report to following about this incredible event shortly 👀!).

Entering into some fine form following up on his shiny PB at the Robin Hoof Half, storming through showing his speed in those legs was a 32 second high score from Patrick Horn, completing the race in 42:26. Suzy Parish ran a blinder to improve on the new best time she set also in Burton at the BDSL fixture on a scorching day, more than 5 minutes slashed to take her down to an impressive 47:10 and 11th female.

Cath Watkins wasn’t one to let the side down, and executed a fabulous effort for a 3 minute personal best and 13th, improving on the time she set at the technical Gate Gallop course last year. Social secretary Victoria Smith was our fifth fantastic finisher hot on Cath’s heels for 14th place in an excellent time of 48:15, an amazing seasons best and her fifth silver standard time added to her amazing collection of consistent speedy outings this year.

James Ogilvie opted to head east towards Derby for the Shelton Striders 10K, another event renowned as having a quick course, and results didn’t disappoint here either. A 1 minute and 49 second fastest performance awarded James with a 45:24 finish time, also completing his set of silver standards.
