02/05/2022 - The Lindsay & Paul report

Lots to bring you from the last few weeks, and we start with the Wednesday night Dave Denton 1 mile and 5K races. Ivanhoe course record holder Matt Pleass was first home for the club and 3rd overall in 5:30. Andrew Stanley was just over the six minute barrier in 6:03, Vic Smith was third female in 6:58, next was Suzy Parish in 7:11, Paul Averillo was hot on her heels in 7:06, Lindsay Tilbury and Paul Woods ran a 8:04 and 05 respectively and Sue Tait completed the team in 8:36.

A swift turnaround for our spritely bunch and into the 5K event. A couple more in blue joined in for the longer race, led by Richard Martin in 18:27 and 6th overall. Matt Pleass snuck into the top 10 with a 19:28, only two seconds in front of Andrew Stanley in 19:30 and only just out of touching distance was Paul Woods in 19:35.

Vic Smith was our first Ivanhoe lady home and 4th overall in 23:45 and Suzy Parish had a strong run to break the 24 minute barrier by a second. A duo of PBs followed in next; Paul Averillo taking 26 seconds off his previous best from Conkers parkrun in 2019 for a finish time of 24:10, and Lindsay Tilbury taking 27 seconds off her previous best also from Conkers that had stood since 2015. Sue Tait was next through the finish in 27:54 and Helen Brandon completed the team ducking under 32 minutes in a fabulous 31:52.

Paul Woods and Lindsay Tilbury were in action once more on Easter Sunday, this time at the Run Through 10K at Prestwold Hall. The flat course was met with warm sunny conditions but that didn’t deter our runners. First home in blue was Paul in 40:48, securing his silver standard time and was the 20th male to greet the gantry. Next up was Lindsay, having an incredible week with yet another personal best, this time taking an amazing 42 seconds off her previous best from our club Adrian Smith handicap race in 2017, with a time of 52:14 and a copper standard to add to her growing 2022 collection.

Judy Mouncer was also out standard chasing, and picked up her bronze for the 10K distance in a fabulous 54:14. Emily Partridge completed the quartet, running the event as part of motivation for her weekend long run and got round the route in 56:46.
