Race results


A massive squad of 41 Ivanhoe Runners took part in the Tamworth Five miler, a Burton and District League race starting and finishing on Tamworth's athletics track and covering local cycle-ways and footpaths. First home for Ivanhoe was Matt Pleas in 10th place in 29.45, a new personal best by just 4 seconds. He held off Craig Hinds who was 12th in 30.06, and Ramzi Sidani 13th in 30.16. Alistair Chambers was 18th in 30.50 and picked up the prize for first in his age group, while Matt Brocklehurst was just behind him, 22nd in 30.59. He in turn was just 5 seconds ahead of Richard Martin, 23rd in 31.04. 

The packing near the front continued with men's captain Nick Rowles clocking 31.25 in 26th, one place ahead of Ian Bolton 27th in 31.31. Mark Parker chased them hard for 31.40 in 29th, five places ahead of Alastair Burgwin 34th in 32.03. A gap then saw Andrew Jones finish 42nd in 33.10 - a new personal best - before Ivanhoe's first lady finished, the speedy Eliza Wrenne, finished 5th lady overall and picked up a prize as first vet35. Andy Lindley was next home, 33.59 in 52nd, ahead of Alex Dutton 53rd in 34.10 setting a new personal best with Ivanhoe. Simon Terry was next home in 56th in 34.27, one place ahead of Patrick Horn 57th in 34.41. Martin Yeomans showed no ill effect from his swim in the Serpentine the day before to claim his London Classics medal, as he clocked 35.40 in 63rd place. 

Martin Rowse returned to Ivanhoe action and ran a fine 35.48 to set a new personal best in 65th place, ahead of new member Jordan Cope in his Ivanhoe five mile debut clocking 36.08 in 70th. Damon Bland was next to finish, in 72nd in 36.17, ahead of another personal best-setter, and second Ivanhoe lady home, Lucy McDermott, who was 11th overall in 36.26. Richard Bebbington clocked 36.59 in 76th, followed by third Ivanhoe lady home Karen Hartland who was 13th in 37.45. Bob White was 82nd in 38.10, while Tor Meadows-Evans set a new personal best as she finished 22nd in 40.19. Helen Finn picked up an age group prize as she finished in a swift 41.39 as 26th lady overall, also setting a new personal best time for five miles. Lindsay Tilbury was next home, 29th in 42.14, ahead of Peter Graves 98th male in 42.21. Amy Derbyshire ran her first five miler in Ivanhoe's colours, and was rewarded with a time of 44.27 in 37th place. Lucy Allsop's recent distance training started to pay off as she clocked 44.47 in 39th, ten places ahead of Ilza Reinke, 49th in 45.58 - her first five miler for Ivanhoe Runners. Charlene Withall was next in 46.40 in 52nd place, and Ivanhoe Runners filled the next two places - Ange Bebbington was 53rd in 46.46 and Gemma Shaw 54th in 47.12. 

Mo Danvers was pleased with her run of 48.38 in 59th place, and she was one place and eight seconds ahead of Grania Towle 60th in 48.46. Jayne Bradshaw was pleased to set a new personal best by nearly four minutes as she clocked 51.10 in 66th, ahead of Club Chairman Heather Swan, speed-working for her upcoming Autumn marathons in Berlin and Chicago, clocking 51.16 in 67th. Kim Harris ran her first Ivanhoe five mile, finishing 75th in a fine 54.30, ahead of Marie Miller setting a new personal best in 54.50 (76th) and Julie Henfrey 81st in 58.29. 

This fixture rounded off the Burton and District League for 2017 and the club eagerly await the league results. 

Ian Kirk trained for the Nottingham Marathon by doing the Ponton Plod, where, due to some interesting navigating, he ran 28 miles in 5 hours 5 minutes.

On a much shorter distance, a team of ten Ivanhoe Runners did the Derby Midweek 5k series. Richard Martin was first home for Ivanhoe in 33rd in 18.36, ahead of Andy Lindley 51st in 20.23. The next two home both debuted at a 5k race in Ivanhoe colours, Andrew Jones clocking 21.29 in 62nd and Helen Finn clocking 26.10 in 91st. A new personal best was set by both Marie Concannon 26.11 in 92nd  and Jenny Hope 27.27 in 96th. Sam Toon was 104th (31.04) and Helen Brandon 105th (32.36), ahead of Rebecca Randall setting a new personal best with 33.15 in 106th, and Michelle Moore 36.36 in 108th.
