20/08/2017 - Donegal M, Leek 1/2, Race' Train

With no league fixtures this week, Ivanhoe Runners took the opportunity to do a range of other events locally and further afield. Furthest afield was probably Grania Towle who ran her first marathon in Donegal, clocking an excellent 4.48.06 on her debut.

Two Ivanhoe Runners did the well known and very popular Race the Train event in Tywyn in Wales. The challenging 14 mile plus cross-country run has the added spice of trying to beat the steam train up the valley and back. With the train taking 1 hour 47 minutes forty seconds to do this, Ivanhoe's Alistair Chambers, an event regular, just missed out as he ran 1.48.50 in the wet and boggy conditions to finish 95th. It was Andy Lindley's debut in the event and he ran 2.00.05 to finish 240th.

Meanwhile, Alistair Burgwin and Patrick Horn took on the hilly Leek half marathon, and both had good runs, Alistair finishing 20th in 1.33.57 and Patrick 62nd in 1.43.35.
