Race results

The Ivanhoe Runners annual overseas tour saw twenty-eight members compete in the marathon, half-marathon or 10k races in hot conditions.

In the marathon, three members battled the conditions which saw uncomfortably high temperatures in the latter stages given its 9am start. Andy Lindley maintained his strict regimen right up to the start and was rewarded with a creditable 3.46.19 clocking, in 265th place. Andrea Trickett looked comfortable all the way round and clocked 4.09.57 (512th), while Tim Sturla battled the heat and an injury niggle as he finished just under four and a half hours in 4.29.28 (705th position).

In the half marathon it was left to club senior member Andy Jeyes to show how to cope with the heat as he ran an impressive 1.36.58 - 227th overall. Behind him, a blanket covered the finishing times of Richard Bebbington, and Alan Edwards, with Richard clocking 1.44.45 (492nd) and Alan clocking 1.44.46 (479th), this being a remarkable personal best for Richard given the temperature. Mark Parker ran 1.45.58 in 702nd place, ahead of Damon Bland who was timed at 1.46.08 in 659th. Martin Yeomans never likes the heat but battled to 1.50.35 in 722nd place. Karen Bell was pleased with 1.47.50 (607th), and was the last Ivanhoe to crack two hours.

Teresa Talbott had her usual strong run to clock 2.06.30 ahead of Laura Graves 2.07.18 and chairman Heather Swan 2.12.05, both Laura and Heather on tapering for the New York marathon in a few weeks time. Emily Partridge ran 2.14.55, followed by Ange Bebbington in 2.21.44. Mike Swan endured the 13.1 miles in 2.29.01.

In the 10k race, Jason Green set the pace with a sub-50 time, clocking 49.52. Hot on his heels through the early part of the race, Peter Graves posted a great debut 10k time of 51.50. Behind him, Bob White was hampered by a comfort break but still clocked 52.18. Judith Webster-Sanders had a great run to clock somewhere around 53 minutes, while Amanda Bradbury and Ruth Green both ran strongly, and were just seven seconds apart on time, clocking 55.28 and 55.35 respectively.

Kevin Sanders suffered from the effects of a cold and finished just under the hour mark in 59.25, just ahead of Sally Jeyes 1.00.35. The quartet of Andy Pole, Mo Danvers, Jane Bland and Allie Sturla set out to have an enjoyable time, and accomplished this, finishing together in 1.15.34.

So another great club trip for Ivanhoe Runners and a successful overseas foray.
