11/09/2016 - Adrian Smith 10k

Ivanhoe Runners held their club handicap race run in memory of a founder member, Adrian Smith, who died 30 years ago this month. Poignantly his widow Mary and family presented the winners trophy on Sunday for the event, held from the Moira YHA and run in aid of Heartwize Runners, a new charity dedicated to giving lifesaving CPR and defibrillator (AED) training to all runners in the region and beyond.

Mary presented the winners trophy to Ian Kirk, who had to run a storming personal best 44.08 to snatch a 20 second victory from Jez Millington-Pipe in second place, running  55.28. He in turn was just 10 seconds ahead of Angela Bebbington in third clocking 56.38, and Damon Bland was fourth another 13 seconds in arrears in 47.51.  This showed what a close race it was, and credit to the handicappers that less than a minute covered the first six runners home. Fifth home was Matt Pleass, in a personal best time of 38.34 which proved to be the fastest time on the day, ahead of Pav Mazur who clocked 44.35.

Sarah Terry was 7th in 44.45, the fastest female time on the day, while Sarah Malone was 8th in 53.23, Emily Wideman 9th in 46.29 and Craig Hinds completed the top 10 clocking 39.08, the second fastest time on the day. Ian Bolton ran 40.23 in 11th, Lucy Allsop 58.15 in 12th, Roger Beaven 49.03 in 13th and Matt Joyce 46.41 in 14th. Karen Bell was 15th in 48.22 before Suzy Beal-Parish clocked a new personal best time of 54.49 in 16th.

Alistair Chambers ran a swift 40.06 in 17th, followed by Colin Brown who shaved two seconds off his personal for 10k, with 50.45. Simon Terry clocked 43.18 in 19th, while 20th home was Sandra Lawless who set a new personal best time of 57.53. LIndsay Tilbury was 21st in 55.59, Andy Lindley 22nd in 45.41, Faith Tipper 23rd in 47.32 and captain Nick Rowles was 24th in 42.39. Grania Towle was next home in 1.04.39, ahead of James Cox (26th in 46.25), Andrea Trickett (27th, 51.17), Julie Henfrey (28th, 1.18.07) and Martin Yeomans (29th, 49.08).

Bart Reid clocked 52.57 in 31st place, followed by Alison Cooper in her debut 10k for the club, clocking 59.47, and a slightly under the weather Tim Sturla who brought up the rear in 59.47. This rounded off a great event for the club and importantly raised vital funds for the Heartwize Runners charity.
