23/07/2016 - Thunder Run


The weekend saw the phenomenon that is the Thunder Run, a 24 hour event for multiple combinations of teams running from 12 noon Saturday until 12 noon Sunday, on a tough, hilly 10k course made even more difficult with running legs through the night. Ivanhoe Runners were represented in various teams and they al performed brilliantly over the 24 hours.

The pick of the bunch was probably Grania Towle who ran an amazing 5 legs - 50k in total - for the "Peas in a Pod" team contesting the Mixed 5 Runners category. Grania ran legs of 1.10.08, 1.09.29, 1.10.58, 1.14.04 and 1.12.52 to help her team home to 90th place. Andy Lindley also ran 5 legs in the Conkers parkrun K team, clocking 47.26, 49.04, 50.52, 1.00.52, and 52.58 to help the tam finish a brilliant 6th in the Men's 5 Runners category. Richard and Ange Bebbington both ran for the Conkers parkrun R team in the Mixed 8 Runners category, and helped the team to 161st position. Ange ran legs of 1.12.49, 1.10.48 and 1.19.47 while Richard clocked 57.46, 54.41 and 57.42.

Two more recent Ivanhoe Runners represented their old club, Newark Striders, in the event in the Mixed 5 Runners category. Emily Partridge ran five legs timed at 1.0.23, 1.01.05, 1.08.26, 1.08.10 and 1.00.54 while Mark ran four legs, clocking 58.12, 57.39, 1.07.51 and 1.08.07 as they finished in 58th place.
