24/11/2013 - Benidorm half and 10k

Ivanhoe Runners were on tour this weekend as around 20 members participated in the club trip to Spain for the Benidorm Half Marathon and 10k races. The combination of great team spirit and perfect conditions – sunny but not too warm saw some excellent performances including several fine new personal best times. In the half-marathon race first home for the club was Nick Teige, finishing an impressive 58th out of a total of 1288 runners in 1:23:49 to beat his previous best time by several minutes. Martin Yeomans was next, sporting the stylish new Ivanhoe team kit and finishing in a very pleasing 1:32:14 (200th) just ahead of Andy Lindley who also set an excellent new personal best of 1:34:12 (241st). Andy Jeyes had a great run to come home 4th in his age group in 1:38:23 (384th). Performance of the day came from Laura Graves who smashed her previous fastest time to finish in an excellent 1:43:40 – also 4th in age group (551st overall). Lynda Revill was next, 654th in 1:46:32 followed by Amanda Bradbury, 862nd in 1:53:04, Victoria Smith, 912nd in 1:54:45 and Fiona McKean, 937th in 1:55:23, all great runs. Finally Susan Jenkinson ran her first ever half marathon and had a great race to finish in 2:19:13 (1233rd). In the 10k distance Club Chairman Kev Sanders was delighted to finish in an excellent 48:48 (167th) ahead of his wife Judith Webster-Sanders, 303rd in 55:00. Heather Swan ran with husband Michael, finishing together in 56:21 and 56:22 (333rd and 334th) before Sally Jeyes, 361st in 57:34 and Brian Gough, 487th in 68:59. These excellent results saw the team celebrate with a few well-deserved post race beers in the Spanish sunshine, whilst closer to home other team members turned out in more usual wintery conditions.
