Race results


This weekend saw the final race of the Leicestershire Road Racing League, the John Fraser 10. Starting from Countesthorpe the undulating ten mile route takes in some beautiful local villages and countryside and conditions were perfect with bright sunshine throughout. Fastest for the club with a sensational run to bring him home in tenth place in 59:23, a fine new personal best and one of only 15 athletes on the day to beat the hour mark. Next with another fantastic new personal fastest time was captain Nick Rowles who continues to lead the team from strength to strength finishing 80th in 1:06:39 followed by a great run from Martin Yeomans,  118th in 1:08:42. Next came Clare Fowell who continued her superb form this season with a storming run to finish 9th lady in 1:09:07, yet another new personal best time for Clare. Super veteran Andy Jeyes was next, 141st in 1:10:44 followed by a pleasing return to form from Kev Wright, 163rd in 1:11:55. Next came Simon Terry, 182nd in 1:13:00 closely followed by James Cubitt running his debut ten mile race and finishing well in 1:13:44. Also running for the first time at this distance was Mark Eydman, delighted to finish in 1:14:24 (211th) ahead of Tim Sturla (251st in 1:15:44) and Alan Edwards (264th in 1:17:12). Next for the ladies team was Karen Bell with a great run to set a new personal best time of 1:19:42 (296th) followed by Karen Hartland, also beating her previous best with a strong finish to cross in 1:22:32 (349th). Next came Tracey Powell in her first 10 mile race for the club and finishing very powerfully in 1:23:54 (364th) ahead of good runs from Carolyn Osborne (1:26:09, 401st) and Ruth Green (1:26:17, 404th). Judy Edlin was yet another 10 mile debutant and ran very well (447th in 1:28:18) ahead of Anne Newbery (468th in 1:30:02) and Karen Edwards (499th in 1:33:30). The final three Ivanhoe finishers all showed what great progress they have made this year with Sarah Malone completing her first ten mile event (511th in 1:34:23), whilst Katie Poole and Julie Henfrey both smashed their personal best times by six minutes Katie finishing in 1:42:24 (573rd) and Julie in 2:01:43 (625th). Elsewhere a number of runners who are in the middle of training for autumn marathons took on longer events.  At the tough hilly South Cheshire 20 mile race Ian Bolton smashed his personal fastest time finishing first for the club in 15th place (2:14:12) ahead of Alistair Chambers (31st in 2:23:22). Andy Lindley also had a great run to set a new personal best of 2:28:36 (44th). Victoria Smith ran very well finishing in 3:01:18 (131st) with Fiona McKean beating her previous best as she came home in 3:16:47 (156th). Ladies captain Laura Graves took on the Golden Ball 20 mile race in Lancaster and despite a recurrent injury finished not far outside her best time in 2:50:13 (46th). Ian Kirk was the only Ivanhoe Runner at the Wolverhampton Marathon and after an injury earlier in the year was pleased to complete in 3:50:23 in 69th place.  There was also success for the triathletes amongst the club at the Tri Bosworth middle distance event with Rosie Dear  taking first prize in the ladies veteran category (39th in 5:32:16) and Julian Rawlings finishing well in 48th position (5:53:34).
