12/09/2015 - IVANHOE 30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Attention Ivanhoe Runners past and present - come and celebrate the 30th anniversary of our great club !

Autumn 2015 sees the 30th anniversary of the founding of Ivanhoe Runners, and the club is planning to celebrate in true running style with a team relay event followed by a social get-together at Hicks Lodge on Saturday 12th September, starting at 4pm. The club are opening the invitation to all past members to come and support the current teams as they race around the lake at Hick's Lodge, and join them in refreshments after the race. Chairman Kevin Sanders, who has been a member of the club since mid 1986, said " It would be lovely to see as many familiar faces from over the decades as possible, to have a catch up over old times and races".

From its early beginnings of a handful of runners at Hood Park in Ashby de la Zouch in 1985, the club has gone from strength to strength and now boasts over 150 members split roughly evenly between the sexes. The Club welcomes newcomers undertaking a structured beginners programme through to seasoned athletes, and competes in three local leagues both on the road and in cross-country. Ivanhoe Runners also organise the famous Ashby 20 race, which has long been highly regarded nationally winning the accolade of the 3rd best race of its type by Runners World magazine.

The 30th anniversary relay race will see teams of 6 current runners, all starting together, competing against each other by accumulating a total of 30 laps of the lake. The run is expected to be completed in around an hour, followed by a presentation of trophies for the winning team members, and by current and previous members enjoying a light supper and a few beers for a small fee of £4.

So, if you were previously a member of Ivanhoe Runners and would like to come along to join in the celebration, please contact Kevin Sanders on 07808 095609 or kevindereksanders@gmail.com , or Heather Swan on 07966 277154 or heather@swansnest.plus.com .
