Seven Ivanhoe Runners took part in the highly competitive Midlands Cross Country championships on Saturday at Nottingham’s Wollaton Park and did the club proud with excellent performances despite tough opposition. Becca Hallam, the only Ivanhoe lady taking part, lead the way with a fantastic race bringing her home in an impressive 51st place (of 266 runners) in 33:07. The men fielded a full team of six runners despite a late injury to Kev Wright which saw Andy Lindley bravely step up to take his place in the longer distance event. All six competed very strongly against the strongest opposition in the region. First home was Gerard Eivors (234th in 48:59) ahead of Phil Stevenson (281st in 51:00), Osian Flowers (289th in 51:20), James Cox (323rd in 52:55 despite losing his running shoe three times in the mud), Andy Lindley (334th in 53:30) and Martin Yeomans (341st in 54:13). The team finished in 33rd place, a very pleasing result for an event at this high level.
