Ivanhoe ladies bring it home

A total of 49 Ivanhoe runners braved the cold on Sunday for the fourth race of the Derby Runner Cross country series, at Bradgate Park. Taking in some scenic but challenging terrain, not helped by icy conditions, the course was a true test of stamina, balance and resolve through which the ladies team emerged victorious.

Hannah Cox was first home for the Ivanhoe ladies, finishing 9th lady with a time of 40:26, closely followed by Rebecca Hallam who stormed home in 41:02. Zoe Allery, Sarah Terry and Rosie Dear completed the winning ladies team with times of 42:55, 43:35 and 45:27 respectively. Whilst these made up the scoring four they were ably supported by the rest of a very strong team consisting of Karen Bell, Ingrid Redmond, Amanda Bradbury, Rebecca Wilkinson, Victoria Smith, Teresa Talbott, Carolyn Osborne, Harriet Roberts, Allie Sturla, Gabby Smith (finishing her Cross Country debut in 53:46), Bev Trilloe, Heather Swan, Helen Horn, Natasha Quick, Katie Poole, Grania Towle, Maureen Danvers, Lucy Allsop and Elaine Moulton.

Of the men, Steven Baggott was first home for Ivanhoe with a time of 38:53, followed by Simon Terry and Phil Stevenson with times of 39:11 and 39:40 respectively. Men’s team captain Nick Rowles was next for Ivanhoe, finishing in 39:58, ahead of James Cox (40:44), new member Charles Robinson having an excellent debut (40:46). Osian Flowers (43:30) and Andy Lindley (43:40) completed the mens scoring team.  The scorers were supported by a strong squad with all members relishing the beautiful but tough course and including: Martin Yeomans, Andrew Jeyes who finished in a time of 43:32 to take first place in the Vet Men’s 60 category, Barry Alldread, Bob White, Damon Bland, Andrew Pawley, Kev Wright, Jonathan Shaw, Roger Beaven, Julian Rawlings, Kev Sanders, Keith Baron, Christopher Jones and John Lewis. Special thanks must go to Hayley Rudin and Sally Jeyes who provided tea and coffee for the runners after the race – providing a much-needed warm up after the chilly start.

Thanks to Gabby Smith for the race report
