02/02/2014 - Charnwood Hills

The latest event for Ivanhoe Runners was the very challenging Charnwood hills race on Sunday. With 14 miles and 1200 feet of ascent over Bradgate, Broombriggs and Beacon Hill Country Parks, the recent wet weather turned this into a brutally tough race. Despite the conditions underfoot, an eight strong team of Ivanhoe men completed the race and, thanks to the lovely sunshine and support of their club mates even managed to enjoy themselves in the process. First home for the club yet again was Ramzi Sidani with an excellent run bringing him home in 28th place (the same position as he finished in last year’s race) in 1:49:04. Martin Yeomans was next with another strong run, 103rd in 2:03:43 ahead of Andy Jeyes, 129th overall and 2nd vet 60 (2:09:02). Tim Sturla had a great run coming 200th (2:18:18) and finishing ahead of Ian Kirk, 230th in 2:21:44, with Roger Beaven and Alan Edwards close behind finishing in 242nd (2:24:27) and 244th (2:24:42). Andy Pawley had a very good run finishing in a pleasing time of 2:30:14 (271st) to complete the Ivanhoe team.
