30/09/2014 - Nottingham Berlin East Leake

The weekend was another busy one for Ivanhoe Runners with many club members taking part in the Robin Hood full and half marathons in Nottingham. Ian Bolton made his debut over the full 26.2 mile distance and had a cracking run finishing comfortably in 3:11:43 making up for his disappointment of missing out in London due to injury. Next came Nick Teige, continuing his 10 marathons in 10 weeks challenge for the Brain Tumour Charity and finishing his 7th event in an impressive 3:38:15 despite stopping for over five minutes as he came to the aid of a runner in front of him who collapsed in the heat. Nick was accompanied throughout the race by Ian Kirk, who finished in a similar time of 3:38:16 with Tim Sturla just behind in 3:39:46, Ian and Tim being two other runners who are chalking up multiple marathons this year. Many members took on the shorter half marathon challenge and fastest home setting an excellent new personal best was Ramzi Sidani crossing in 1:21:11. Ramzi was pushed on by a fine battle with new team mate Mike Trott who continued his sensational start for the club by beating his previous PB by over 5 minutes as he finished in 1:22:24. Damon Bland had a good strong run to finish in 1:41 with Andy Pawley next with a great time of 1:41:08 ahead of Andy Lindley and Karen Bell who ran together and crossed in 1:45:07, making Karen the fastest Ivanhoe lady of the day. Chris Finney ran his first ever half marathon and made it look easy as he finished in 1:46 with Laura Graves just behind in an excellent time of 1:46:45. Victoria Smith was next finishing very well in 1:49:26 closely followed by Rebecca Wilkinson who beat her previous fastest time as she finished in 1:50:21 followed by Karen Hartland in 1:53:25 and Andy Wilkinson, 1:57:34. Emma Kirtland almost didn’t run due to lack of recent training but was glad she did as she had a good race despite having to stop for a nasty blister, crossing in 2:03:59 followed by Kelly Finney with a great new PB of 2:06:26. Next came Rhianon Jones, just home from honeymoon in 2:08:19 closely followed by new member Grania Towle with a new personal best time of 2:08:14 and Karl Savill who started well but faded in the heat to finish in 2:09:09. Next came John Lewis who also beat his previous personal best as he completed the team in 2:28:29. Elsewhere Alistair Chambers ran the Berlin Marathon where a new men’s marathon world record was set by Dennis Kimetto. Not quite that fast Alistair nevertheless had a great run to finish in 3:04:56, a most impressive time for his age group. Zoe Allery was outstanding in the East Leake Triathlon finishing 3rd in age category in 1:12:49 with Julian Rawlings also performing very well, 10th in age group in 1:13:49.
