Some 50 runners took part in the Washlands Relays last Wednesday – part of the Burton and District Summer League that sees teams of four men and three women tackle a 2-mile course in a relay format.

The men’s first team of Osian Flowers, Mike Trott, Ramzi Sidani and Ian Bolton finished fourth overall, with a cumulative time of 48:40, while the men’s second team of Simon Terry, James Cox, Charles Robinson and Dave Hobbs finished 12th overall with 52:04. The men’s fifth team (Richard Martin. James Cubbitt, Pav Mazur and Jason Green) were next home in 54:27 to finish 15th overall, just ahead of the fourth team (Andy Jeyes, Nick Rowles, Andy Lindley and Martin Yeomans) who finished in 54:37 and 17th overall. The men’s third team (Richard Bebbington, Kev Wright, Alistair Chambers and Ian Mortimer) finished in 55:57 and 20th position, while the men’s sixth team of Damon Bland, john Lewis, Kev Sanders and Shane Stanton finished 26th in 01:03:55.

Of the ladies, the first team of Becca Hobbs, Tracey Powell and Zoe Allery finished strongly to secure third place with 44:13, while the second team of Laura Graves, Victoria Smith and Karen Hartland finished eighth in 47:17. The women’s third team (Ruth Green, Judy Edlin and Gabby Smith) finished 12th with a time of 48:21, just ahead of the fourth team (Sally Jeyes, Lucy Allsop and Angela Bebbinton) in 50:52 and 17th ladies team home. The fifth team (Grania Towle, Emily Starkie and Hayley Rudin) finished 22nd in 54:40, just ahead of the ninth team (Julie Henfrey, Laura Graves and Ruth Green) and the eighth team (Jenny Hope, Kaytee Smith and Alison Morrison) who finished 26th and 27th with times of 56:18 and 56:47 respectively.

The sixth team (Helen Thurogood, Fiona Spiers and Katie Poole) were next home for the ladies, finishing 29th in 57:56, while the seventh team (Maxine Brown, Helen Simmons and Rebecca Randall) completed the Ivanhoe offering with 01:01:51 and a 33rd position.
