31/12/2022 - Baywatch, IronMan & a nun.

Race results

Our 77th and final race report for 2022 showcases the very best of fancy dress, cross-country, and the coldest of evenings.

We begin at the Gaddesby Gallop, where seven lovers of off-roading completed the 5.25 mile course, featuring a 4ft diameter drainage pipe and a wade along the Gaddesby Brook. Am I selling it to you? XC Cap Fiz Betts was first in blue through the finish in 47:42, James Ogilvie next in 48:17 and Chris Osborne in 52:30. Our fabulous quartet of Geoff Brown, Carolyn Osborne, and Lisa & Simon Hall ran together in 1:01.

It was a freezing night for the last Dave Denton of the year, where just three runners joined forces for the shorter 7pm race. James Cox, Becky Moult and John Finn completed their miles in 6:35, 8:49 and 9:06 respectively. They were joined by one more in the 5K, where James Cox had a solid blast along Raynesway, occupying 5th place in a smooth 18:12. Emily Partridge was out seeking a PB in less than ideal conditions but made it happen, knocking 5 seconds off her Aintree time from December ’21 finishing in 20:48. Becky was chuffed to only finish a second outside of her November time, running 21:43 and earning her 5th female. John completed those out for the midweek fun in 23:38.

The Huncote Hash has been a favourite in the calendar since the mid 80s and the 10Kish race includes a climb over Croft Hill and little splash through a stream. New Years Eve saw allsorts coming out of the closest, and I didn’t realise we had so much diverse representation of backgrounds and skills across our club. Two Baywatch lifeguards kept everyone safe in the watery sections with support from our English knight. In full camouflage, asking “Is this the way…?” was an Ivanhoe Runner in 1:06 who lead the path for a couple of Bavarian locals, Iron Man, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, and a nun taking a quick excursion from the nearby convent was spotted amongst the merriments.

Well done to Matt Pleass, Mark Bradford, Amelia Monaghan, Pat Horn, Chris & Carolyn Osborne, Paul Averillo, James Cox, Becky Moult, Rich Bebbington, Lindsay Tilbury. Paul Woods, Amanda Bradbury and Teresa Talbott who had fun and games on the morning and flew the flag for the club.
