20/11/2022 - Dashing round Derby

Race results

Whilst some were getting muddy at Holly Hayes, a group of other runners looked as if they’d been running the XC fixture, but instead took on the Derby 10 mile road race, which thanks to the considerable amount of rainfall, had left some sections in quite a messy state.

Our runners were led home by Mark Parker, a new personal best time for him of 57:32, more than 9 minutes taken off his outing at the same race in 2017. Ramzi Sidani also broke the coveted hour, showing some fine form in 59:42, a PB for him of almost a minute versus his Burton 2019 run.

Matt Pleass made the PBs three from three, 91 seconds were slashed from his Derby 2019 visit, making the top 100 in 1:01. Rob Baden clocked his first 10 miler for the club, a superb time of 1:03:12 was the reward for his effort. Alastair Chambers was next home, fourth back in his age category in this fast field, 1:05:55 being his finishing time.

Another PB greeted Andrew Stanley, 1:07:40 and 37 seconds off his Derby 2018 visit was his prize on the line, chased along that final straight alongside the velodrome by Mark Harriott, only two positions and three seconds separating the pair.

Andy Cole and Clare Wood both ran their debut 10 miles and finished in style, 1:11:42 and 1:15:15 were their respective times. Matt Joyce was next back, finding himself feeling a bit under the weather on the morning but ran strong to complete the event in 1:21:11, and Andrea Trickett completed the wave one runners in a time of 1:21:41 and found it good race practice.

Our wave two runners set off a few minutes behind our first bunch, and first through the gantry was Kev Laz in 1:20:47. Two of our committee members followed next, Emily Partridge in 1:21:53 and Victoria Smith in 1:22:31. Sandra Lawless kept the Ivanhoe representation flowing in quick succession on her debut 10 miler, 1:23:05 was the benchmark she set.

Georgie Smith was not far away at all and started a hattrick of PBs. 1:23:12 took more than 4 minutes of the time she ran at the internal Ivanhoe 10 event only a week before. Nancy Bennion took 14 seconds off her Derby 2018 time in 1:23:52 and Helen Finn also had a cracker, finishing in 1:24:15, over 4 minutes off her Myerscough 2019 time and finishing 5th in her age category.

Another couple of debuts were next over the line, and both new members in the last year; Michelle Coates ran 1:25:25 and Alex Gillon was our final superstar finishing in 1:29:48.
