11/07/2022 - Hathersage, Beeston, WE8

Those just entering the running scene are likely to have heard of the 5Ks, 10Ks, half and full marathons, but get fully immersed and you find practically any distance is out there to race, on all sorts of terrains in a mixture of formats.

Hathersage Hurtle is a challenging 20 mile course in Hope Valley, taking in a whopping 2,800ft of ascent. Leading the team was James Cox, taking 40th place in sub 3 hours and snatching the club course record, followed by cap Louis Barnes in 3:11 and Pat Horn in 3:38. Our dynamic duo Andrea Trickett and Julie Taylor crossed the line in 3:41, with Simon Hill only just five minutes before he too completed the event.

Trent 5 is a race organised by Beeston AC, a scenic route along the Beeston canal and the river Trent, so is flat and flat. They were led home by Alistair Chambers in a lightning 32:33 earning him first place in his age category. Next up was Clare Wood, finishing inside the top 20, both our first back runners setting club course records. Alex Gillon followed in her debut 5 miler, Sue Tait hot on her heels and finishing fourth in her category. Helen Brandon, no stranger to this event completed our five at the five.

West End 8 is an undulating fixture on the LRRL circuit. 18 runners stepped up to the plate, 3 personal bests and 10 debuts later, they were all home safe and sound.

Ian Bolton led the gang in 52:28, followed by Paul Woods, eyes on the club Grand Prix competition, and third back was Ian Kirk, first PB of the day, taking a huge 4 mins 16 off his time ran here back in 2014. Mark Bradford was next, followed by Amelia Monghan, expertly paced by Chris Osborne. Andy Cole and Mindy Ashton both broke through the sub 8 minute pace barrier, and Laura Graves up next was awarded with an age category win.

Paul Averillo added his first 8 mile event to his running CV, whilst Lindsay Tilbury was out to nab a shiny PB, taking 2 minutes 37 off her outing here in 2016. Suzy Parish was only 5 seconds behind, and Sarah Malone achieved a grand six minute 13 PB destroying her 2015 time. Jill Singleton and Alex Gillon tried their hand at the 8 mile distance for the first time, Lucy Allsop came in next followed by Faye Burrows, and LRRL ever present Julie Henfrey completed the team.
