11/02/2022 - Old John & the Team in Blue

Each year the local Charnwood Hills event attracts hardy trail runners from all over, always with a smattering of sky blue out in force. Last Sunday saw the 34th showing of the race hosted by the Bowline Climbing Club that covers 14 miles and involves 1,200 feet of elevation! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

The challenging off road course takes in sections of the Leicestershire Round and National Forest Way, has runners tackling the mighty Old John through Bradgate Park, a visit to Beacon Hill Country Park, with the name giving away its nature, and Broombridge Park. ๐Ÿ—ป

Our there doing their thing, and doing themselves and us proud where Ramzi Sidani (13th in 1:43), Louis Barnes (60th in 1:55), Andrew Stanley (80th in 2:03), Patrick Horn (144th in 2:18), Fiona Betts (206th in 2:37), Andrea Trickett (211 in 2:38), Matin Yeomans (219th in 2:39), and Tim Sturla (220th in 2:39). It was the 17th appearance for Martin at the popular event and he described it as the “toughest Charnwood Hills I’ve ever done. My legs felt like they weren’t mine afterwards.” ๐Ÿ˜

A special mention goes out to Amelia Willden, who after battling to mile five made the incredibly difficult decision that no runner ever wants to have to make, to call it a day ๐Ÿ’”. Amelia said “I will be back to next year 100% and get it done”. We’re so chuffed you made the right decision for you and your body Amelia, a fantastic example, and we’re cheering you on for your next attempt! ๐Ÿฅณ

Runners were chuffed to see team mates out on course to support them round, with thanks going to out to Paul Averillo and Gemma Shaw, and Julie Taylor who was on marshal duty with the all-important job of keeping runners on the right course with much concentration going into “left, left, no not that left, the other left” ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿผ on what was described as a rather brisk morning. ๐Ÿฅถ

Well done to all of you and thanks to the support crew for some fabulous photos! ๐Ÿคฉ
