19/02/2022 - Congratulations Coach Barnes!

CELEBRATION SATURDAY! Earlier this month we were chuffed to bits to hear that Club Captain Louis Barnes had completed his Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) qualification, and is now a fully licensed and qualified running coach.

After being a runner for 15 years, Louis took the leap and decided he wanted to do something more with all the experience he had amassed. The pandemic delayed his plan slightly, but the journey towards completing his qualification finally began in October 2021.

As part of the course, Louis created an eight week plan for an athlete, with Robin Edlin being the lucky guinea pig who was given fitness and technical goals to work towards. A big thanks goes out to Robin who was put through his paces and committed himself to the training with so much enthusiasm, supporting Louis whilst getting a boost in his own running, having not missed a step the whole way through. The course also involved attending workshops and assessment days, as well as delivering a practical session, and learning about the structure of training, and the different energy systems.

Louis said, “I was really lucky to have a great group of others also looking to achieve the qualification who I’ve kept in touch with. One of the key things I’ve already learnt through this process is you’ll never stop learning from others. I’m now starting to get my name out there and put the wheels in motion to set up my own coaching business.” As well as Robin, he also extends his thanks to England Athletics coach, Matt Long, for continuously being on hand to answer questions and offer guidance along the way.

Louis is known for his friendly and supportive nature, so any questions you have for him, he’ll be happy to support with. We’re super excited to see what’s next for you on your coaching adventure! All the very best of luck from all of us at Ivanhoe.
