Race results

The finale of the Burton & District Summer League is traditionally staged from the Tamworth track, where on Sunday 18 September, 27 Ivanhoes toed the line. Before the main event, the one-mile junior event was very much enjoyed by our future superstars – well done to Anora, Grace, Eva and Hettie.

For the big boys and girls, Mark Parker led the charge finishing inside the top 10 in 29:10 following a 14-mile warm up as his last long run before Chicago. He just pipped Ramzi Sidani to the line who ran 29:14, and Abby Halcarz 🏆, our speed demon who secured the first-place finish and a club course record time, an incredible 36 second PB in her countdown to London marathon.

Matt Pleass was next home in 30:25, a slightly flatter route to his recent adventure to Lahti, 🇫🇮 for the Red Bull 400, the toughest 400m race you’ll find where participants sprint up ski jumps. Pleass did himself ridiculously proud finishing 12th in 2 mins 14!

James Cox and Paul Woods both ran PBs of over a minute, with finish times of 30:26 and 30:55 respectively. Dan Bladon ran his five-mile club debut in 31:54, followed by Ian Bolton in 32:52 and Alistair Chambers who won his age category in 33:07🥇.

A trio of PBs blasted through next. Andrew Stanley an 18 second best for 33:07, Jordan Cope a 1:57 best in 34:11 and Andy Cole an astonishing 4:41 for a time of 34:34. Shortly after was Pat Horn in 34:39, Andrew Bottrill in 36:03, Matt Joyce in 36:37 and Mark Bradford in 36:47.

Amelia Monaghan had a flyer with a PB of 50 seconds for 37:09, just holding off Clare Wood who ran 37:33 and secured second-place in her category🥈. Suzy Parish and Mindy Ashton joined the realm of PB collectors, 46 seconds improvement in 38:41 for Suzy and 3 seconds for Mindy in a time of 38:53.

Laura Graves triumphed her age category with a time of 39:33🥇, who led home Victoria Smith in 39:44, Bec Sharpe in 40:02, Paul Averillo ran our final PB of the day in 40:58, a high score of almost two minutes, and Lindsay Tilbury in 42:21.

Emily Partridge was another rounding off a long run with the five-mile race in 43:43 and Jeff Cross did a cracking job of completing his five-mile race debut running a superb 47:58.
